Haiti happenings and trip information

I’ve been back in Haiti for one month now volunteering with an organization called Baptists 4 Haiti. I serve here with one other missionary, Roland Norris, and a handful of Haitian staff. The “4” in Baptists 4 Haiti stands for Preaching, Teaching, Healing, and Building. We partner with churches and universities throughout the United States who are interested in serving in Haiti in these four areas. Baptists 4 Haiti is continuing the ministry started by the Georgia Baptists Convention Disaster Relief who came to assist in the relief efforts after the earthquake in January 2010. We have a guest house in Leogane and partner with 26 churches in the surrounding area. Since the first teams began coming through Baptists 4 Haiti in February of this year, we’ve had over 150 volunteers who have ministered to more than 5,000 Haitian people. So far we have had the privilege of being involved in leading 57 people to a new relationship with Christ! Praise the Lord!

God is changing lives through this ministry, not only the lives of the Haitian people, but the lives of the American volunteers are being transformed as well as they serve and grow in their own relationship with the Lord. We have been able to see entire teams grow closer together and grow closer to Christ and leave the beautiful land of Haiti changed forever for His Glory!

Since February Baptists 4 Haiti teams have built a roof for a church, a kitchen for an orphanage and completed their well, and have been able to meet physical needs of nearly 1,500 Haitian people through mobile medical clinics. The teams have led seven Vacation Bible Schools in all, hosted block parties, and played picked up games of basketball and soccer throughout the community. We are very excited about the seeds that have already been planted and sown and it is even more exciting to think that this is just the tip of the iceberg of what we are praying God will continue to do in and through us… and you!

One of the main purposes of this entry is to let you know that we are currently in the process of booking teams from September 15th to the week ending December 15th. If God has been laying on your heart that your church or ministry should send a team to Haiti, we would love to hear from you and give you more information about how your team could be involved. We are praying that every week is filled with volunteers so we can continue to minister to these precious people who are seeking hope and who are in desperate need for true hope found in Jesus Christ.

For more information or to book a trip, contact our team coordinator, Cindy Kegley at office@baptists4haiti.com or call her at 912.674.7649. A one week trip costs $600 per person plus airfare. This price includes lodging at our secure guest house, breakfast and dinner each day, unlimited drinking water, ministry site coordination, pick-up and drop off from the airport, and a driver, security guard, and translator for each team of eight people. Teams arrive on Saturday and depart the following Saturday. We can host up to three teams of eight each week.

Also, we are looking for 100 churches, individuals, Sunday school classes, etc. to partner with us in order to keep this ministry going well into the future.  By partnering we are asking for a pledge of $1,000 a year.  Please help spread the word so we can continue to minister here in Leogane, Haiti. Roland and I will typically be on a 3-1 month rotation... three months in Haiti, one month in the States. During that month at home we will be scheduling speaking engagements at any church or group that would like to learn more about Baptists 4 Haiti and opportunities to get involved. He has been speaking across the State of Georgia. I would love to start getting Tennessee churches involved, and of course we would love to go beyond those states as well! So let us know if you'd be interested in having one of us speak. We also have others, board directors and friends, who are passionate about this ministry and would be willing to speak on behalf of Baptists 4 Haiti as well.

Thank you again for your willingness to be involved in missions and for your partnership or future partnership with Baptists 4 Haiti.

And thank you personally for following along with my journey! Many of you have expressed interest in coming on a trip to Haiti in the near future so I hope this email serves to provide the details you were looking for. If you have any questions, let me know! Would love to see you down here soon! :) I got the opportunity to redo our website. We just launched it last night and I’m excited! Check it out: www.baptists4haiti.com. And please forward this information to anyone who may be interested in missions in Haiti.
