A fun filled summer

It's been a great week here at the guesthouse! We're hosting 19 people from three different groups. Of course we still have our four fabulous Duke SRT students here. We've also got a group of 13 here from Wynne Baptist Church in Arkansas, and we have two soon to be physicians here from Kansas through an organization called Heart to Heart International.

I love getting to know the teams, finding out what brought them to Haiti and more about the programs that are active here. Within this houseful of 19 folks, several of them are in Haiti for the first time, some have been here a few times before, and for at least a couple of them, it's their first time out of the U.S. period.

We have some of the best staff here at the guesthouse of anywhere in Haiti! When I began in January, I was so blessed to realize that they each have their jobs down to a science! Yvette, our cook, plans out her daily menu and shops that morning for whatever she's going to serve for dinner. Jocelyne, our housekeeper, keeps the guest rooms and living areas in pristine condition. Our groundskeeper, Jude, has tended well to our colorful bougainvilleas and kept the fridge stocked with cold drinks. Our three security guards are not only great company, but they take their jobs seriously and are always on the lookout and ready to lend an extra hand. We even have a new and furry addition to the guesthouse, Atau, a sweet pup that I've known for a couple years who needed a new home. She's been keeping the guests entertained and of course considers herself our fourth security guard.

It will be a busy summer with the Duke students here until the end of July and several teams coming through for week long stays. But there's still room for more so add your reservation to the mix and come down and soak up the sun and refreshing Caribbean breeze!
